Crete workshops for flower lovers
Alice Mann: March 2013
Crete workshops for flower lovers.
Holiday visitors to Crete are invited to join a residential botanical workshop in a hillside village near Paleochora. The 10-day workshop in western Crete, led by Jenny Neal and Julia Jones, runs from April 23 to May 3 and costs €730. The residential course includes guided botanical walks, art workshops, transport costs (except for getting there) and full board.
If anyone wants to drop in for a day at the centre in the village of Azogires, near Paleochora,, the cost is €50 including lunch and transport.
The course is ideal for Crete holiday visitors who want an introduction to Crete flora or simply enjoy the beauty of flowers.
There will be many interesting plants expected to be in full flower in the Azogires region. Some 1,500 species of flower and orchid are at their best in the Cretan spring sunshine.
Jenny Neal is a botanist with a special interest in the Cretan flora and she will lead the walks. The art workshop will be led by artist and writer, Julia Jones, who is president and founder of the charitable organisation 'Flowers of Crete'.
Visitors stay at the Alpha Hotel Retreat in Azogires which has six twin bedrooms and two double bedrooms with an additional single bed. There is a large kitchen/diner with an outside terrace suitable for breakfast, lunch and workshop activities.
Small groups of people can be picked up from the airport at an extra cost or car hire can be arranged in advance with a car available at the airport.
