Marilyn Monroe turns up in Crete
Archimedes: March 2011
Marilyn Monroe turns up in Crete.
Marilyn Monroe may not have had much to do with the holiday island of Crete but she takes centre stage at an art exhibition that runs throughout the summer season. 'Marilyn in the Arts' exhibition consists of more than 150 art works — including photographs, paintings, works on paper, graphics, videos and sculptures.
Andy Warhol, Christo, Arnulf Rainer all feature in the exhibition as well as top photographers such as Bert Stern and Douglas Kirkland.
The show at, The International Exhibition Centre of Crete, in Gouves, Heraklion, runs from April 16 to October 30.
The exhibition centre was opened in 2007 with financial backing from many local firms in a bid to promote Crete and Cretan products.
