Residents of the popular Zante holiday resort of Laganas have had enough of drunken Brits rampaging through their streets. A protest petition is demanding that authorities clamp down on the annual summer holiday 'jungle' of drunken street parties. They want an end to the delinquent behaviour of drink-addled youngsters benders that have given Laganas a reputation across Europe for drunken debauchery. At a Laganas town hall meeting local people registered anger.

Zante island will have to improve services if it is to attract more visitors on href="Greek island holidays, the island council has been warned. Poor roads, inadequate sewage treatment, irregular water supplies and lack of signposting threatens to affect Zante's chances of attracting more people. Hoteliers on Zante have complained of insufficient water supplies in some parts of Zante island especially in the peak holiday season of July and August.

Brits on holiday in the Greek islands are better behaved according to a report British Behaviour Abroad, released by the Foreign Office. The report on the British on holiday reveals fewer incidents involving British tourists in need of consular services or aid from the Greek authorities between April 2010 and 2011. A total of 112 British tourists were arrested in 2010/11 compared to 222 the year before, according to figures and consulate staff were called in to assist with 797 cases.

As temperatures have soared in Greece, the hot summer weather has sparked wildfires on several Greek islands this year. Hardest hit have been forest areas on Zakynthos where wildfires have been ravaging the countryside all week since July 10. The worst outbreak was in the northern region of Volimes, where the fire spread rapidly because of strong winds. A fire was was reported in the forest area just to the south of Volimes.

A 19-year-old British holidaymaker has been killed and four of his friends injured in a knife attack in Laganas on the Greek island of Zante. Two Greek taxi drivers are being held by police after the attack in the early hours of July 12 outside a fast food restaurant in the popular Zante holiday resort. One of the offenders is believed to have complained that the British youths were using laser guns on the taxi drivers.

Horse carriages owners on the holiday island of Zante are to be told to clean up their act.
The horse carriages rides are very popular with tourists in a number of resorts on the islanincluding the capital port of Zakynthos Town. But locals claim that strong smelling horse droppings that are left behind in the streets are smelly, offensive and messy for visitors on Greek Island holidays.Now a meeting of the island's Quality of Life committee wants to impose a €150 fine on owners who fail to clean up the horse mess from the streets.

Policing the popular holiday tourist strip of Laganas, Zante, looks set to remain a problem after locals failed to reach agreement on cracking down on late-night hooligans. Repeated meetings between police, politicians and local business leaders have failed to come up with a plan to deal with annual delinquency on the tourist strip. Drunkenness and delinquency is an annual headache for locals as boozed up youngsters indulge in all-night bar crawls.

Shop, bar and taverna owners on the island of Zante, are up in arms at the recent growth of all-inclusive holiday packages to the Greek islands. They say shops are deserted and restaurant tables remain empty as all inclusive package tourists stay all day in their hotels and bars. Business president for Tsilivi and Kalamaki, Yiannis Liveris, said May 2011 had seen the worst trading for local tourist business owners in the last 10 years.
