Gay cruises in the Greek Islands

- by Archimedes

Gay cruises in the Greek Islands.

A small ship cruise company is offering Greek Island cruises aimed at gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender travellers interested in sailing the Aegean. The cruise project includes at least two sailings for this year from the Athens' port of Piraeus and calling in at several Greek islands over the seven-day voyage.

Variety Cruises is a member of IGLTA (International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association) and a supporter of the health and well-being within the gay community through special projects and initiatives.

Both Greek Island cruise trips will take place aboard the 50-passenger Harmony V, one of the company's largest vessels. The first sailing is on August 9 and the second on August 23.

The cruise schedule takes in the island of Delos with its archaeological treasures, its cosmopolitan neighbour of Mykonos, the cliff-top resorts around the caldera at Santorini, the little known island of Folegandros, the remote and beautiful island of Poliegos, picturesque Milos and the stunning Greek islands of Hydra.

The Harmony V is a modern, sleek vessel that echoes the look of private luxury yachts found in glamorous ports all over the world. It boasts a spacious lounge and warmly decorated dining area with large windows to give great views of all the destinations.

It has a large sundeck that offers a shaded outdoor area for all-day dining and a bar with sun chairs and loungers. The swimming platform on Harmony V stern will gives easy access for those looking to enjoy swimming and other watersports activities.

The price of the seven-day cruises is from €1,620 and more details can be found on the Variety Cruises website.

Although it's good to see more being offered to gays within Greece it is still a contentious issue that gay marriage is still outlawed in the country.

The Greek gay community has urged policymakers to press ahead and legalise gay marriage in line with Spain, Portugal and other tourist focused countries.
