Greeks islands are top ten friendly.
Most of the regular visitors to the Greek Islands will be well aware of the friendly welcome that usually awaits. Now the popular holiday destination has been ranked among the top ten most hospitable holiday destinations in the world. A survey by holiday company Hotel.com puts Greece alongside Spain, Japan and Italy for friendly welcomes in a survey of 27.000 global travellers.
The survey also highlights the rising numbers of visitors to the Greek Islands this year, already up 10% and expected to top a record 17.5 million by the end of the year.
The hotel website also noted that hotel prices in Greece continue to be low relation to the quality of accommodation on offer.
Taking hotel rates across the world for the first half of this year, Greece ranks 25th in the list of cheapest destinations in the world.
The survey found little changes on last year's rates based on the average nightly charge in Greek hotels for a twin room at €106.
Rates do vary from one Greek island to another however, with hotel room rates on popular islands like Mykonos and Santorini much higher than many other islands.
Hotel prices worldwide increased two per cent in the first half of 2013, now approaching the same level as before the financial crisis, according to the latest Hotels.com Hotel Price Index (HPI).
Set at 100 in 2004, the HPI tracks real prices that hotel guests actually paid for their accommodations around the world.
The Index for the first six months of 2013 stands at 111, eight points lower than its peak in the same period of 2007 and just 11 points higher than at its launch.
