Zante horse carriage clean-up call

Zante horse carriage clean-up call.
Horse carriages owners on the holiday island of Zante are to be told to clean up their act. The horse carriages rides are very popular with tourists in a number of resorts on the island including the capital port of Zakynthos Town. But locals claim that strong smelling horse droppings that are left behind in the streets are smelly, offensive and messy for visitors on Greek Island holidays.
Now a meeting of the island's Quality of Life committee wants to impose a €150 fine on owners who fail to clean up the horse mess from the streets.
And horse carriage owners who refuse to clean up or pay up could have their operational licenses revoked.
A spokesman said: 'The penalty for those who do not clean the dirt of their horses would be up to 150 euros, while in case of relapse will be removed until the operating permit.'
Horse and carriage rides are a popular tourist attraction along the seafront promenade in Zakynthos Town as well as in several other popular tourist resorts on the island of Zante, including Laganas and Alykes.
